Twin brothers Neil and Buzz, 20 years old, seem to live an idyllic life at Polar Bear Odyssey at the Como Zoo in St. Paul, Minnesota. Since 2010, they have had two lovely enclosures of 13,140 square feet outdoor space with pools and grass and shrubbery, and a central training area. Their favorite side is the right, with the 16 foot deep diving pool, sometimes stocked with live fish.

Die Zwillingsbrüder Neil und Buzz, jetzt 20 Jahre alt -sie scheinen ein ideales Leben zu haben im Como Zoo *Polar Bear Odyssey* in St.Paul, Minnesota. Seit hatten sie zwei außerordentlich wunderbare Aussenanlagen mit 13.140 feet -mit Schwimmbecken, Rasen und Platz zum Schubbern,und eine Trainingsanlage im Zentrum. Ihr Lieblingsplatz war auf der rechten Seite mit dem sehr tiefen Pool, 16 foot tief, manchmal gab es dort Fische zum Tauchen (und verspeisen).

But their routine is often interrupted by the arrival of visitors, who take over their favorite deep diving pool side of their habitat. 

Jedoch wird die Routine desöften durch die Ankunft von Besuchern unterbrochen, die dann ihren bevorzugten tiefen Pool in ihrer Anlage belegen.

First it was the three Minot Zoo Grizzly Bears, whose home zoo in North Dakota was flooded in April of 2011. The door to the boys' favorite side was locked. 

Zuerst waren es die drei Grizzly Bären aus dem Minot Zoo, weil deren Heimat Zoo in Nord Dakota im April 2011 überflutet wurde. Nun war die Tür für die Jungs auf ihrer Seite geschlossen.

And then, Neil and Buzz had to take in their niece Berlin, whose habitat at the Duluth Zoo was flooded in June 2012. She had escaped, been safely captured, and brought to live with her nephews. Neil and Buzz enjoyed having Berlin's company, and often played with her. Berlin eventually went to live at the Kansas City Zoo. At least with Berlin, they could share the left side of the habitat.

Dann mussten Neil und Buzz ihre Nichte Berlin herein lassen- weil ihre Anlage im Duluth Zoo im Juni 2012 überflutet wurde. Sie entkam, wurde sicher wieder eingefangen und wurde dann zu ihren Neffen verlegt. Neil und Buzz genossen die Gesellschaft von Berlin, und haben auch häufig mit ihr gespielt. Berlin wurde dann weiter verlegt in den Kansas City Zoo. Wenigstens während der gemeinsamen Zeit mit Berlin konnten sie die linke Seite der Anlage benutzen.

When the Grizzly bears, Goldie, Judy and Sandy, finally went back home, it took months to repair the damage done by those sharp claws!

Als dann endlich die Grizzlybären Goldie, Judy und Sandy wieder heim reisten dauerte es noch Monate an Reparaturen, die durch ihre schafen Krallen verursacht waren.

Then those darling little twins polar bear cubs from Toledo, Suka and Sakari needed a place to stay, so they moved into Neil and Buzz's favorite enclosure, with the deep diving pool. After Suka and Sakari left to live at the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin, it seemed finally, Neil and Buzz could enjoy both sides of their lovely home, including the deep diving pool.

Dann brauchten die niedlichen Zwillingseisbären Suka und Sakari aus dem Toledo Zoo einen Platz zum Verweilen, also zogen sie ein bei Neil und Buzz, in ihren beliebten tiefen Pool auf ihrer Anlage.  Nachdem Suka und Sakari dann umzogen um im Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin zu leben sah es so aus, als ob Neil und Buzz endlich beide Seiten ihrer Anlage und auch den tiefen Pool zum Tauchen würden benutzen können.

But then, there was a leak! Their tank in the deep diving pool had sprung a leak! The boys had only the central training area and the left side.

Aber dann-es gab ein Leck! Ihr Becken in dem tiefen Pool hatte einen Sprung. Nun hatten die Jungs nur den zentralen Trainingsplatz und die linke Seite der Anlage zur Verfügung.

Neil spent a lot of time swimming laps in the shallower pool, and practicing his seal pounces on the barrels.

Neil verbrachte viel Zeit runden zu schwimmen in dem flachen Becken und übte sich am Tauchen mit den Tonnen.

 Buzz, who does not like the rain, spent time indoors, or on sunny days, playing in the mud pit or rolling in the grass. But they missed their deep pool.

Buzz, der Regen gar nicht mag verbrachte viel Zeil im Inneren der Anlage oder an sonnigen Tage spielte er im Match oder rollte im Gras herum. Aber sie vermissten ihren tiefen Pool.

It is always fun to play with a stick

It took months to repair the leak, and then the keepers had to make sure there weren't any leftover plumbing parts in the enclosure by going over it with a magnet.

Es dauerte Monate das Leck zu reparieren, und die Tierpfleger mussten sicher sein, dass keine vergessenen Metallteile  übersehen wurden, also suchten sie  die Anlage mit Magneten ab.

Finally, on on the morning of May 26, the door opened and the boys could play in their favorite place, and they could dive again!

Endlich-am Morgen des 26. Mai öffneten sich die Türen und die Jungs konnten wieder auf ihre Lieblingsplätze und sie durften auch wieder tauchen.

They inspected the new "rock" covering the plumbing. They checked out the toys. They explored the bushes. Everything delighted them.

Sie untersuchten den neuen Felsen, der die reparierte Stelle verdeckte. Sie überprüften ihr Spielzeug. Sie durchforsten das Gebüsch. Alles war eine große Freude für sie.

There were many there to cheer them on. It was a busy day at the zoo, but Neil and Buzz didn't notice. They were just enjoying their favorite pool, and the swimming was great!

Es waren viele dort sie zu bejubeln. Ein sehr aufregender Tag für den Zoo-aber Neil und Buzz bekamen davon nichts mit. Sie hatten nur Spaß an ihrem Pool, und das Schwimmen darin war einfach fantastisch.

It is easy to see the joy on the faces of Neil and Buzz as they once again can swim and play in their favorite spot.

Man konnte es recht gut erkennen an Neil und Buzz, dass sie wieder schwimmen und an ihrem Lieblingsort spielen konnten.

Now they have a new home

Neil and Buzz, longtime residents of the Como Zoo in St. Paul, Minnesota, are used to welcoming friends and relatives.

This week the Como Zoo hailed the arrival of the fun-loving twins from Toledo, Sakari (boy) and Suka (girl). The twins were born November 21, 2012, so they are almost two years old. The Toledo Zoo is hopeful that Nan will give birth to cubs this winter at the Arctic Encounter, so it was time for Suka and Sakari to move.

Diese Woche begrüßte der Como Zoo die Ankunft der lebenslustigen Zwillinge aus Toledo, Sakari (Junge) und Suka (Mädchen). Die Zwillinge wurden am21. November 2012 geboren, so dass sie fast zwei Jahre alt sind.
Der Toledo Zoo hofft, dass Nan Junge gebären wird in diesem Winter am Arctic Encounter, so dass es nun Zeit ist für Suka und Sakari umzuziehen.

As it happens, Clark, the grandfather of Neil and Buzz, is also the grandfather of Marty, father of the twins. This means that Neil and Buzz are great-uncles of their new guests.

Wie es passiert, Clark, der Großvater von Neil und Buzz, ist auch der Großvater von Marty, der Vater der Zwillinge. Dies bedeutet, dass Neil und Buzz sind Großonkel ihrerneuen Gäste.

The Toledo Zoo has been very successful in breeding cubs, six cubs in eight years. Marty and Nan had Nikita in 2006, the same year that Marty and Crystal had Aurora and Anana. Nikita is now in Kansas City, and the girls live in Columbus Ohio. Crystal had Siku in 2009, and he is now at the Louisville Zoo, which is where Neil and Buzz were born almost 19 years ago.

Der Toledo Zoo war in acht Jahren sehr erfolgreich in der Zucht von Jungtieren, sechs Jungiere wurden geboren. Marty und Nan hatten Nikita im Jahr 2006, im selben Jahr, Marty und Crystal hatten Aurora und Anana. Nikita ist jetzt in Kansas City, und die Mädchen leben in Columbus Ohio. Several years ago, Neil and Buzz shared their accommodations with three brown bears, Goldie, Sandie and Judy, from the flooded Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot North Dakota when that zoo was devastated by spring floods in June of 2011. The brown bears lived in the right hand enclosure, and Neil and Buzz lived in the left hand side, with still plenty of room.

Vor einigen Jahren, Neil und Buzz teilten ihre Unterkünfte mit drei Braunbären, Goldie, Sandie und Judy, aus dem überfluteten Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot North Dakota, als der Zoo vom Frühjahrshochwasser im Juni 2011 überflutet wurde. Die Braunbären lebten in den zerstörten rechten Seite der Anlage, und Neil und Buzz lebte in der linken Hälfte, mit noch viel Platz.

Then it got even more crowded. The Como Zoo had six bears at one time for about 6 months after 23 year old Berlin, Neil and Buzz's niece, was displaced by a flash flood in June of 2012 at the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth Minnesota, just a few hours north of St. Paul. Berlin stayed until December, when she moved to the Kansas City Zoo. Neil and Buzz loved having Berlin stay with them. The little family of three had a great time playing together. Berlin, who was much smaller, seemed to be the boss of her younger uncles.

Dann wurde es noch mehr überfüllt. Der Como Zoo hatte sechs Bären auf einmal für etwa 6 Monate mit der 23-jährigen Berlin, Neil und Buzz Nichte wurde nach einer Überflutung im Juni 2012 zum Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth Minnesota verschoben, nur ein paar Stunden nördlich von St. Paul. Berlin blieb bis Dezember, dann zog sie um in den Kansas City Zoo. Neil und Buzz haben den Aufenthalt geliebt mit Berlin und mit ihnen allen zusammen. Die kleine Familie von drei hatten eine tolle Zeitzusammen zu spielen. Berlin, die viel kleiner war, schien der Chef ihrer jüngeren Onkel zu sein.

The brown bears finally were able to return to their home zoo. Berlin has moved to the Kansas City Zoo, where she shares her home with Nikita, who is the older brother of Suka and Sakari.

Die Braunbären schließlich konnten in ihren Heimat-Zoo zurückkehren. Berlin kam in den Kansas City Zoo, wo sie ihr Zuhause mit Nikita teilt, der der ältere Bruder von Suka und Sakari ist.

Neil and Buzz, who will be 19 years old this fall, have had some experience with a younger polar bear. While the Como Zoo was upgrading their exhibit during 2008-2010, Neil and Buzz spent several years at the Detroit Zoo's Arctic Ring of Life, the largest polar bear exhibit in North America, where they spent countless hours playing with Bärle's' daughter Talini, who was only six years old at the time.

Neil und Buzz, der in diesem Herbst 19 Jahre alt wird, haben schon einige Erfahrung mit einem jüngeren Eisbären. Während der Como Zoo Zeit wurde ihre Anlage erweitert und renoviert von 2008-2010, Neil und Buzz verbrachte deshalb mehrere Jahre im Detroit Zoo Arktis Ring of Life, die größte Eisbären Ausstellung inNordamerika, wo sie unzählige Stunden spielen mit Bärle, welche Tochter Talini geboren hatte, die war erst sechs Jahre alt zu der Zeit.

  For now, Suka and Sakari are separated from Uncle Buzz and Uncle Neil. There is a mandatory quarantine period of 30 days. After that, the zoo will determine when to introduce the four bears.
