This week we are seeing a three way polar bear shuffle, and it is hard to keep up! The polar bears are on the move.

Diese Woche verfolgen wir drei Eisbären Umzüge, kaum noch nachzukommen. Die Eisbären ziehen um.

Anana, in Brookfield Zoo

The Buffalo Zoo, which has recently opened a brand new polar bear area, invited fans to come by to say goodbye to Anana, who would be leaving for an unnamed zoo (Cincinnati). Her 4 year old daughter Luna remains in Buffalo. Anana arrived in Cincinnati last week, and now is in the lower pool area of the Lords of the Arctic, away from the public. 

Der Buffalo Zoo, der kürzlich eine brandneue Eisbärenanlage eröffnet hatte lud Fans ein Abschied zu nehmen von der 16 Jahre alten Anana, die in einen unbenannte Zoo in - Cincinnati umziehen wird. Ihre vier Jahre alte Tochter Luna bleibt in Buffalo.Anana kam in der letzten Woche in Cincinnati an, und bewohnt nun die untere Region und Pool am *Lord of the Arctics*, von der Öffentlichkeit nicht zusehen.

In Cincinnati, she will meet 27 year old Little One, who is an easy-going, laid back guy. Anana was not happy with dominant Aussie in the Brookfield Zoo, and had no male to contend with recently in the Buffalo Zoo but she will like Little One just fine. He will always let her have her way.

In Cincinnati wird wird Anana auf den 27 Jahre alten Little One trennen, ein einfacher, relaxter Eisbär. Anana war gar nicht glücklich mit dem dominanten Aussie im Brookfield Zoo, und hatte auch keine männliche Gegleitung, aber sie wird Little One schon mögen und tolerieren, er wird es ihr einfach machen.

18 year old Berit has just left the Cincinnati Zoo, after being off exhibit for two weeks and no party, no announcement. 

She is on her way to Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin, to be companion to 4 year old Suka. Suka and her twin brother Sakari were born at the Toledo Zoo in November of 2012, and spent some time at the Como Zoo in St. Paul, Minnesota, until they moved to the brand new polar bear home at Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin. Suka and Sakari are approaching maturity, and the brother and sister could not stay together.

Die 18 Jahre alte Berit hat gerade den Cincinnati Zoo verlassen, zwei Wochen war sie in der Anlage nicht zu sehen, es gab auch keine Party oder eine Ankündigung. Sie ist auf dem Weg zum Henry Vilas Zoo in Masison, Wisconsin, sie wird die vier Jahre alte Suka begleiten. Suka und und ihr Zwillingsbruder Sakira wurden im Toledo Zoo im November 2012 geboren, und verbrachten auch einige Zeit im im Como Zoo in St.Paul. Sakira wird bald geschlechtsreif werden, somit dürfen Bruder und Schwester nicht länger zusammen bleiben.

Berit will love her new home in Madison, since it has a great diving pool, and she loves to swim laps.  She will also enjoy the spacious grassy area. Cincinnati's enclosure is all concrete.

Berit wird ihr neues Zuhause in Madison lieben, denn es hat einen großen Pool zum Tauchen und sie liebt es ihre Runden zu schwimmen. Sie wird auch das großzügige grasbewachsene Areal genießen. Das Gehege im Cincinnati Zoo hat nur Betonboden.

Sakari

The Henry Vilas Zoo threw a going away party for Sakari, and he is now in the Buffalo Zoo and will soon meet young Luna of the same age, and enjoy the large grassy enclosures there too.

Der Henry Vilas Zoo gab eine große Abschiedsparty für Sakira,er ist nun im Buffalo Zoo und wird dort recht bald auf die junge, gleichaltrige  Luna treffen, und wird sich auch über die große, grasbewachsenen Anlage sehr freuen.

I talked to one of the Cincinnati staff who is dealing with Anana, and she said she is really cute. They are excited to have this new lady bear. Little One was fond of Berit, but mostly as a pal, and there was no mating between them last spring. It is hoped that Anana, who has already given birth to one cub, will prove to be more alluring, and more fertile. The Cincinnati Zoo is also home to CREW  (Center for Research of Endangered Wildlife), which is at the forefront of polar bear reproduction.

Ich konnte mit einer der Tierpflegerinnen im Cincinnati Zoo sprechen, welche sich um Anana kümmert und sie sagte, Anana sei sehr nett. Man freut sich sehr die neue Bärendame hier zu haben. Little One war sehr bemüht um Berit, aber eher als Kumpel, es gab auch keine Paarung während dieser währenden Zeit.  Man hofft, auf Anana, sie hat ja schon ein Jungtier geboren, und sie wird vielleicht mehr herausfordern und fruchtbarer sein.Der Cincinnati Zoo ist auch der Standort für CREW (Center for Research of Endangered Wildlife).

  From what we hear, this is not the end of moving around zoo polar bears. There are several more ladies who will be moving, but I suspect the zoos are just making sure they are not having cubs. Stay tuned.

Nach allem, was wir so hören ist das Ende der Umzüge von Zoo Eisbären noch nicht beendet. Da gibt es noch einige Eisbärinnen, die irgendwann auch umziehen müssen, aber ich vermute, die Zoos wollen auch sicher sein, dass sie keine Jungtiere haben. Bleibt dran.
